About Kristy
Kristy Howes radiates a brilliant combination of undeniable talent, a distinguished work ethic, humility and a genuine love for Country Music. This vibrant singer/songwriter was clearly destined for something far beyond the small Canadian town she grew up in. Howes brings a fresh sound to the industry and is making her mark on today’s music scene.
In 2009 Kristy signed a production deal with a Nashville Based company, “Littleton Music Group” co-owned by drummer/producer Trey Grey (Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill & Jewel). In 2010 Kristy released her debut record “The December Sessions” across Canada & the USA.
In the whirlwind years that followed Kristy has opened for the likes of CCMA alumni Johnny Reid, Jason Blaine, Tara Oram & Crystal Shawanda. In 2012 Kristy successfully headlined her very first West Coast Canadian tour, appeared on ABC’s hit drama “Nashville” and had her own weekly summer radio show “Peace of Nashville” airing in on 100.1 Moose FM. She continues to stay busy writing songs for various indie artists & has recently landed some of her very first cuts as a songwriter.
Although justifiably proud of her work on her debut record The December Sessions, Howes felt she focused on doing what was expected of her. “Everyone involved had opinion and I respected that, but I let others opinions get in the way of what I really wanted”.
Wanting a more hands on approach to her music, Howes got into the driver’s seat, fully embracing every aspect of the musical lifestyle. I experimented with music.I wrote with a lot of different people, I played a lot of shows. I craved unique experiences & things that would compliment my individuality. Howes worked diligently to develop the many areas of her artistry & her efforts paid off.
In her first release in two years & her 1st attempt at co-producing, her single “You Chose the Whiskey” (co-written by Howes & S. Sanford) hit the air-waves in March, 2013. It was a memorable month for Howes as she was recognized by SOCAN for her Song writing talents & “You Chose the Whiskey” was featured as their song of the month. Kristy’s vocal ability “shone in this emotionally raw song” and it received a wildly positive response from Fans, Canadian Radio & Colleagues. "You Chose the Whiskey" also beat out more than 18,000 entries & was a semi-finalist in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition.
Fresh off a successful single and in honor of continuing down the path of co-producing, Howes paired up Country Recording Artist & NAMM guitar star, Steve Rutledge to collaborate on her sophomore project “Country Blend.” “Country Blend infuses everything that I love together, instrumentally, vocally & lyrically. It’s brutally honest, fun, sassy & inspiring. It’s the record I’ve always wanted to make, says Kristy."
Howes’s first single “Chase Him 2 Hollywood” from her upcoming EP will be released on December 3rd to iTunes & to Canadian Radio in 2014.
When Kristy isn’t pursuing her music career, she is advocating for Huntington Disease “HD”, a rare and terminal genetic disease that her colleague, Trey Gray suffers from. Kristy’s past kudos include performing for more than 500 people at the Toronto Run for HD in 2012, successfully organizing the first indoor run in support of HD in Canada in 2011 and hosting & organizing “Karaoke for a Cure in 2013. Howes has also been featured in several published articles regarding her various contributions to the HD community.
It’s true, a few things may have helped Howes along the way, but the accolades she’s garnered since are results of her unrelenting energy, huge personality and refusal to settle. Howes insists that she’s lucky to be able to do what she does, as few people chase their dreams with the kind of persistence that she has routinely displayed over the course of her life. It’s true, time & place may have played some small part, but Howes knows chance is a poor substitute for single-minded dedication and drive.
Whether singing, writing or performing, Kristy Howes will captivate you. Kristy’s spirit infuses her entire career and she makes an impression that will keep fans and colleagues engaged and inspired for years to come.
